Deacon & Deaconess


 
Origin of Deacons:
 
“Therefore, brethren, select from among you seven men of good reputation, full
of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task.” (Acts 6:3)
 
 
Origin of Deaconess:
 
“I commend unto you Phoebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea: That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succorer if many, and of myself also.” (Romans 16:1-2)
 
Supporting Role:
 
Deacons
v     Assist the Pastor in administering Baptism and Communion
v     Assist in the spiritual matters of the church as deemed expedient by the Pastor
v     Hospital watch care ministry; visit sick & shut-in members at home and the incarcerated
v     Actively participate in church Worship through scripture, songs and prayer
v     Support and help promote the church vision as given by the Pastor
v     Oversee the Benevolent and Committee
v     Pray for the members, church Leaders and Pastor
v     Participate in and support all ministries of the church.
 

 
Deaconess
v     Responsible for preparation of baptism garments and communion elements
v     Team up with and assist Deacons and Pastor in duties that men cannot perform
v     Assist in the spiritual matters of the church as deemed expedient by the Pastor
v     Support and help promote the church vision as given by the Pastor
v     Partner with Deacons in hospital watch care ministry and visiting the sick and shut-in
v     Encourage and support young women as they grow toward Christian maturity
v     Coordinator the Benevolent Committee
v     Serve the church in various capacities.
v     Participate in and support all ministries of the church
